Quizlet is a flashcard-type of program that allows users to create unique question sets or access question sets created by others. It runs on personal computers and mobile devices (both Apple and Android).

Quizlet lets the teacher create a study set for students to use for review or as an in-class activity. They can also allow students to create question sets to be used by the class. I have seen one instructor use this as a way to re-enforce material and create study guides for her students. The class is put into small groups and given a topic. They are tasked with creating 5 – 10 “flashcards” on that subject. When all groups are done, a comprehensive review set is available for students to access. Quizlet has several different modes allowing the teacher to use it in several different ways – a learn mode to allow students to see what they know and then review what they don’t know, a test mode for practice assessments, and several game modes which can be used individually or in teams.

Quizlet can span disciplines quite easily. In a social studies class, students could do a presentation on a subject (for example, the city of Saint Augustine) and then have several flashcards for questions after the presentation. Using the Scatter Mode, students can compete against one another to see who can enter the correct responses first. For language studies, Quizlet’s audio mode could be used. This allows users to spell out what they hear and is available for eighteen different languages.

Its ability to run on mobile devices allows the student to study “on the go” and not be tied to a computer to review, create or play a Quizlet game. Teachers can incorporate Photomath into their lessons plans at any time. When starting a lesson to help explain, during the lesson, when a few students may not comprehend the skill yet and at the end to check their answers.

As of yet, the application is relatively new and still being developed. Currently, the application has been able to add handwriting recognition it’s features. Hopefully it could be used internationally to engage students who have the same difficulty in solving math problems.

Glogster allows students to access through any mobile device and saves progress using cloud storage. The projects provide a means for students to integrate various forms of multimedia to demonstrate their understanding of a teacher provided or student chosen topic.

Glogs can be created based on any topic which allows for teachers to bridge and incorporate cross-curricular content.
